Books Every Maine Lover Should Have
If you love Maine, here are the books I think you need in your home.
At First Light: Two Centuries of Maine Artists, Their Homes and Studios This is an excellent book to start your Maine book collection. It’s such a dreamy portal into the lives and culture of Maine artists.
Devotions by Mary Oliver I love Mary Oliver so, so much. While she isn’t from Maine, her poetry makes me feel like I’m on the island, even when I’m not. The way she writes about nature is masterful.
Maine by Eliot Porter Eliot Porter grew up summering on Great Spruce Head Island in Penobscot Bay, and has an incredible way of capturing the intimacies of Maine landscapes.
The Little Island by Margaret Wise Brown My childhood in a book. This was a staple bedtime book for me as a child. I grew up coming to the island in the summer, and theres something so accurate and romantic about the way Margaret Wise Brown depicts this little island.
A Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey A classic. I give this to friends who are getting married, friends who are having babies, as birthday presents… It’s a piece of art.
I hope you enjoy!
