My Island Wardrobe

IMG_9233.jpeg

My island wardrobe. The pieces I wear on repeat and the capsule wardrobe I cannot live without.

Every day is a combination of receiving orders, hauling flour, cutting branches, taking meetings, unclogging toilets, trying to squeeze in a quick hike, or jumping on a boat out to the islands… these are the pieces that get my through it all, and hopefully in style.

I hope you enjoy!

THE JACKET TO PACK

Jacket!

This jacket is so worth the investment. I wear this all the time. It’s the Fitz Roy down hoodie by Patagonia. It is both lightweight and can be very, very warm. I wear it in January on the island, hiking in the woods, I would wear it sailing on a windy day in July, and would bring it with me to Santa Barbara in September. It’s my desert island jacket, the jacket I would pack if I could only pack one. I also love how it can easily transition from sporty to chic by adding a peacoat over it, hood out, if you want to elevate the look.

WHAT SHOES TO PACK

Sneaks! Mules! Boots!

Sneakers! Suede mules! Great boots! That is all you need. These are the three shoes I reach for the most. On Clouds are my go to, reliable hiking sneakers, excellent for trail running, hiking, hauling gallons of milk from one end of Main Street to the other. I recently added these Flattered suede mules to my wardrobe and am so glad I did! Such a great investment, comfortable, stylish, versatile.

If you’re coming up for the weekend or spending a week on MDI, I see you hiking and running around trails in these sneakers and reaching for these mules for an evening boat ride, and enjoying cocktails at a friends house in these boots.

These Le Canadienne Connor boots are the best. Waterproof, mud proof, suede, comfortable, stylish, functional. I’ve had mine for five years.

WHAT PANTS TO PACK

Jeans!

Living a casual, but professional life on the island, I reach for a great pair of jeans the most. If I’m not hiking in leggings I’m wearing a structured, polished pair of jeans. These are tried and trues for me. Jeans that work for all four seasons, and denim I can easily dress up or down, depending on the occasion. Life on the island is so casual, but it can also be dressy in the evening. I would wear any of these with a t-shirt or an untucked, oversized Oxford shirt during the day, and add some jewelry and a tucked in silk button down or slouchy cashmere sweater for the evening.

DL1961 makes my favorite jeans EVER, I have these Taylor Barrel in washed black and light denim. The white Hepburn jeans are my favs pair with a fitted dark sweater. My Sea NY patchwork jeans get so many compliments and they’re on sale right now.

WHAT SWEATERS TO PACK

Sweaters!

I live in sweaters. I wear my Nuuds t-shirt (literally have bought so many t-shirts and Nuuds are the only ones I consistently wear and repurchase) underneath and toss a sweater on top EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. These are all very, VERY good fits. Slouchy, slightly structured, and an essential for my idea of a flattering fit— cropped! So far, cost per wear is great. I just rotate through. I also take very good care of my sweaters with garment washer bags, delicate detergent, and a sweater comb.

We have a range of prices here. The red Merino White + Warren is on sale, the pale yellow cashmere cable knit White + Warren is not cheap but beautiful and I have my eye on it! I never buy Nili Lotan full price, always search around for her pieces on sale at department stores or big online retailers. I have this Nili Lotan Haisley sweater in charcoal and moss green and I wear them all the time (I bought both on big sale). The Gap cropped cardigan is a new favorite and it’s currently 50% $48.

WHAT ELSE TO PACK

BIG GOLD!

I am a big gold girl. I love chunky, big, minimal design accessories. I love a big ring, a chunky earring, an ear cuff. I am a firm believer that a good piece of jewelry (not necessarily expensive) elevates any simple outfit. I can quickly go from sweater and jeans business owner who has to haul 100 lbs of flour to someone on their way to cocktails.

I’ve got some high low here. Note the $13 Amazon earrings, some of my faves.

WHAT T-SHIRT TO PACK

Send NUUDS!

I like a boxy, cropped cut 100% cotton t-shirt thats medium thickness. If that’s your style, I’ve got the t-shirt for you. I have tried so, so many styles and t-shirts, and Nuuds is the t-shirt I reach for almost every day. It’s a great base layer for me. In the mornings when it’s foggy and chilly, I wear them under sweaters and a jacket, and when the sun comes out and it warms up, I feel totally comfortable wearing just this t-shirt. Often times t-shirts are sheer and it makes me uncomfortable to just wear them without something over it, not this one.
